How do I attach database when I just have express edition

I'm trying to attach a database to sql server using the sp_attach_db
stored procedure. However, I don't see management studio on my
computer. I do have Visual Basic 2005, which is supposed to install
the express version of SQL Server. How do I run the command to attach
the database given that I don't have a paid-for version of sql server?

For SQL Server 2005 Express Edition you can download a management studio
and you will not pay for that , pease search on interent

I'm developing using Visual Web Developer and want to have a web page that shows the contents of a table. I get the error message when testing the connection through database explorer "Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection".

The SQL server has been configured to operate in "Windows Authentication Mode (Windows Authentication)" and doesn't allow
the use of SQL accounts.

Change the Authentication Mode of the SQL server from "Windows Authentication Mode (Windows Authentication)"
to "Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication)".

How can we avoid somebody to access the MDF data by doing User Instance connection?

I created a database that will be distributed to my customers. This database is running on an Instance of SQL Server 2005 Express edition. I removed the admin logins from my SQL Server Instance so in theory, only my application connecting itself using the Sql Server autenthication will be able to be access the data (using "sa" having a password that I set at the installation).

For now, all this is working fine and after some tests, I haven't been able to access the data in any ways except by using the "sa" and the password my app is the only one to know.

But the problem is coming from a security leak when using User Instance. Indeed, I've been able to create a program getting the content from my MDF file. If somebody try to get connected using User Instance on his own SQL Server instance, he will be able to reach the data.

How could I prevent this to happend? Is there a property or something that could be set into the database that would prevent the database (mdf file) to be used with User Instance?

How can I use Sql Express instead of Sql Server 2005 for asp.net providers

Hi all,

Since I activated the aspnet_regsql.exe tool, it has been a bad day - here's why:

Originally I installed VS2005 Pro (without Sql Express) and then Sql Server 2005 Dev. I then started to learn asp.net from the ".NET FRAMEWORK 2.0 Web-Based client Development" Training kit from Micorsoft. I have compiled and run every exercise up till Chapter 9 lesson 2 exercise 1, without the need to start the Sql Server 2005. In exercise 2 I should learn about asp.net profilers and the exercise showed me to use the aspnet_regsql.exe tool if I was using Sql Server 2005 - and so I did, and exercise 2 worked fine after a couple of adjustment in the connection string, because it was configured to use the SQLEXPRESS server by default.

However - in Chapter 9 lesson 3, I should not use asp.net providers, so I shut down the Sql Server 2005, because I don't have that much memory to spend. Now the trouble comes - every website I have made afterwards require that the Sql Server 2005 is running or else I get some errors.

How can I get back to the way it was before I activated the aspnet_regsql.exe, so I don't have to have the Sql Server 2005 running every time I want to make a website using aspx?

From your description, it sounds like you need to change the connection strings to use the SQL Express instance instead of the SQL Developer instance.|||

My connection string in both the machine.config and web.config, located in <Win dir>\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG, looks like this:

And I do not use an web.config at the website level.

I have also tried to reverse the action done by aspnet_regsql, by selecting the "Remove application services information from an existing database" option when starting aspnet_regsql.exe. Then detaching the aspnetdb database in Sql Server 2005 and deleted the aspnetdb files (mdb and log files) from Sql Server 2005 - all with out luck.

How can I use DTS with Sql Server Express 2005?

I downloaded the tookit and it put the DTS tools in the installation,
but I still can't use them from within the CTP management studio.
There is still not export database.
Can DTS be used with Sql Server Express 2005? If not why did it

Tools in the Management Studio and add it from the 90 binn directory.
I believe it was the dtsexec file.
