How do I allow Internet client to RS

A picture paints 1000 words (Well here's 6 words and a diagram of our
configuration -- I hope its a enough.)
--RS--Firewall--Website--SQL--Firewall--
(internal) (DMZ)
(Internet)
How do I give Internet clients access to view their reports:
Recofiguration is a possibility. One scenario discuess is to have the RS in
the DMZ; however since the RS Admin is internal there's a concern that Visual
Studio can't deploy across firewalls.
Can anyone explain if the current configuration is feasable or the revised
configuration is possible.
Savvy95We have a production environment that has our SQL server behind a firewall
and the web server in the DMZ zone. Is it possible to install SQL Reporting
services on the SQL Server (that is behind the firewall) and access the
reports created in SQL Reporting from the Web Server and make it available
for browsing?
Any suggestions are welcomed!
Thanks!

How concatenate members from 3 virtual dimensions using MDX

Hello,
There is a big problem - my client made 3 virtual dimensions (Year, Quarter,
Month) from single time dimension and wants to use them, because the
graphical interface in Excel is more friendly for end-users to have 3
dimensions (i.e. 3 separate tabs).
But in the same time we need to make MDX queries with time series with MDX
formulas like YTD, LastPeriod and so on. These formulas need full time
dimension.
I wonder there is possibility to concatenate all 3 members from virtual
dimension and use that aggregate as member for real Time dimension. For
example if user selects 2005 year, I Quarter and February from virtual
dimensions, we can assume, that member from real dimension could be
[2005].[I].[February], but how make that member and submit it to
formula for
later use.
In SQL we have possibility to construct SQL queries dynamically, and what
about MDX.
ErnestasJust an idea -
StrToTuple(
IIF( < original tuple >.Item(0).Dimension IS [VYear] AND < tuple
>.Item(0).Dimension IS [VQuarter] AND < tuple >.Item(0).Dimension IS
[VMonth], < Parse the unique names to create your real unique name using
VB
functions>, TupleToStr(<original tuple> ) )

How client program get the events?

I know SQL 2005 notification service can send email, file, HTTP protocol to inform the client program the events.

1) How to implement the HTTP solution? My client program is Java or MFC. A sample is really appreciate.

2) If TCP socket could be listened for the events too?

Thanks a lot.

I don't have or even know of an example where the end subscriber is a client application (although that is a commonly asked question in the forum/newsgroup).

You'll need to create a custom delivery channel to provide this functionality.

You may also want to check out Query Notifications, as that technology may also suit your needs.

How choose net lib on client side?

I have SQL Server 7 and it has in the network config utility TCP, Named
Pipes and Multiprotocol. I want to use TCP on my clients, the only problem
is I don't know how to set them up to use this as opposed to named pipes. I
do not want to authenticate at the OS level so I'm trying to get it to use
plain old TCP. By default, all of them appear to be using named pipes. Is
there some way I can confirm or change this theory?
Thanks,
Ben
You can manage this using the Client Network Utillity on the client machine.
From the server, you can tell what netlib a client is connecting on by
looking at the net_library column in master..sysprocesses.

|||Interesting, so if I don't have the sql client loaded on a machine, what net
library will it use by default? E.g. I have a fresh install of win 2k with
an app that connects to SQL Server, I haven't loaded a client on it but the
app works just fine and it is using named pipes. I want it to use tcp/ip,
do i have to load the client to specify something different?
Thanks,

How change "Total" caption on hierarchy

Hello,

I want to change the "Total" Caption in hierarchy by "Total by Client" for example. I would know if is it possible or not? And how do this if it's possible.

Thanks,

Betty

Betty,

you want to rename the "All Level"? There is a property for that (in the dimension's properties "AttributeAllMemberName")...

How can we administrate SQL remotely?

Hi,
customer has a W2k SBS with SQL installed. We recently
installed McAfee Protection Pilot, which uses SQL as data
storage for the client configurations. All works well.
Our problem is, that we can logon as local admin and open
this database OK. But when we connect via terminal server,
log in as admin and try to open the database we get the
error: "You can not log on as database administrator. Make
sure that your are logged in as local administrator".
Is there a way to overcome this "logon as local admin"
requirement? How else could one administrate the SQL
database remotely?
Thanks
Wolf
Make sure you have TCP/IP setup in sql client config.
Make sure you have Authentication mode setup to "Windows and SQLServer"

How can I use MDX functions in SQL Query Analyzer (Client Tool)

I'm very new to using MS-SQL stuffs and the IT dept here doesn't have any
DBMA to speak of. Thus, I'm a bit on my own - except for you helpful
people...
I just installed the Client Tools on my workstation and tried a simple query:
SELECT IIf(TBL.fld is NULL, "-N/A-", TBL.fld) FROM TBL;
and get the following error message:
Server: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'is'.
According to the help files, this should work, but clearly not. Is there
something(s) I need to enable, install, configure, tweek, activate, cajole,
or otherwise beg into acquiesence?
See reply in microsoft.public.sqlserver.setup
